Professional Organizations

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered Round Table of the American Library Association is committed to serving the information needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered professional library community, and the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered information and access needs of individuals at large. We are committed to encouraging and supporting the free and necessary access to all information, as reflected by the missions of the American Library Association and democratic institutions.

Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies (GLIFAA) was formed in 1992 in order to challenge a security clearance process that at the time discriminated against gay and lesbian employees. We have since grown to over 300 members and associates and become the officially recognized voice of gay and lesbian personnel in U.S. foreign affairs agencies.

The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA)'s mission is to ensure equality in health care for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and health care providers.

Founded in 1990, National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) is an organization of journalists, media professionals, educators and students working from within the news industry to foster fair and accurate coverage of LGBT issues. NLGJA opposes all forms of workplace bias and provides professional development to its members.

Other Organizations

The Campaign to End Homophobia is a not-for-profit corporation with diverse, international support. Friends include parents of lesbian and gay children, rabbis, priests, therapists, writers, community organizers, family planning staff, sexuality educators, AIDS activists, anti-oppression educators and diversity trainers, college students and their advisors, and lesbian, gay, and bisexual activists. We are a multicultural group focusing on learning about the relationships between homophobia/heterosexism and other forms of oppression and developing personal, cultural, and institutional strategies to educate ourselves and others.

strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.

The GLBT National Help Center
is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that is dedicated to meeting the needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and those questioning their sexual orientation and gender identity.

The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association is a world-wide network of national and local groups dedicated to achieving equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people everywhere.
