The Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance promises an evening of entertainment at a musical fund-raiser featuring Saffire-The Uppity Blues Women. Kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland, the popular and funny feminist trio will perform.

“It’s going to be a great time,” said Gail Harrison, LEDA executive director. “They have such a great following because they are a fun band.” In its eighth year, LEDA started as an alliance to eliminate racial barriers and build a community rooted in tolerance and appreciation for cultural diversity, Harrison said. “It’s a fun opportunity to help a nonprofit in the community,” Harrison said of the fund-raiser. “We work very hard, and are fiscally conservative. I hope that people will come out and help us.”

The interracial group of women is dedicated to the mission of LEDA, Harrison said. They enjoy playing to a smaller crowd, she added, because they like to communicate with the audience and can really get an audience engaged.

Tickets can be purchased on-line at www.ethnicdiversity.org for $21 and at the Knickerbocker for $20. A meet-and-greet with the band, at 84 East Pasta, immediately follows the concert for an extra $10 and is limited to 100 people.
