Hits: Local fair housing center. Housing discrimination is seldom blatant here. It manifests itself more often in unreturned phone calls, in suddenly “disappeared” apartment vacancies, in unsupported, stereotypical assumptions about what someone wants or can afford in a home. It grows out of ignorance more often than hatred, and its effects go beyond ethnic minorities-single-parent families and untraditional households are often victims. That’s why it’s so important that the Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance has won funding to set up a local fair housing center -housing discrimination is a real issue here, one that cuts to the heart of human dignity.
