Miss: A disturbing racial slur

When the "N word" was spray-painted on the driveway of a Park Township family this week, the racial slur wounded not only the family targeted but all people in the Holland area who care about creating a community based on respect, inclusion and dignity for all. Such overt acts of racism are thankfully rare in Holland, but there cannot be any tolerance in this community for this kind of hatefulness. The attack directed at the Robinson family was also an attack on the character and reputation of our community. We have been encouraged by the strong reaction of so many organizations and individuals in the area who have rallied to support the family and express their outrage at the graffiti. Several local organizations are asking local residents to sign a pledge condemning the attack and promising to work for racial justice in our community. We strongly endorse this effort.
