Become a Host Family for an International Student at Hope College

Each year, Hope College Office of International Education welcomes 15-30 new international students. As part of their time at Hope College, each student who is interested is placed with an American “host family”. Hosting international students can be a wonderful experience for your entire family. This unique program offers opportunities for “learning across cultures.” Often the friendship with your host student continues long after their departure from Hope College. For more information, please contact: Kendra Williams at (616) 395-7605 or kwilliams@hope.edu

Volunteer as a Tester for Fair Housing

Testing is a term used by the Fair Housing Center of Western Michigan to describe the process of checking the housing market to determine the nature and extent of discriminatory treatment practiced against various home-seekers. Two or more individuals, similar in every respect other than the variable being tested, are sent to the same sales or rental office. Testers keep careful notes as to what transpires, and then record their experience on a standard report form. Difference in the treatment of testers often form the bases for successful resolution of a housing discrimination complaint. Must be at least 18 years old. Testers are paid a small stipend. For more information, contact Lucia Belassi at (616) 451-2980 or 1-866-389-FAIR. learn more...

Two people of diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds are invited to pair together and commit to meet once a month for a year to dialogue about race. They are also invited to quarterly fellowship gatherings to network, share a meal, watch films, and share experiences. For more information, contact Rev.
