Our Future Depends on Inclusion

The Lakeshore Region Summit on Racism gathers hundreds of individuals to a day-long conference focused on the effects of racism and designed to stimulate a year of action. The goal for individuals from the community, businesses, government, nonprofit or faith-based organizations, and academia is to learn, share practices, form strategies and develop concrete plans for shaping a prosperous, inclusive future.

Program Overview

2001 began the first year in the five-year Summit on Racism series, now continuing to occur bi-annually due to demand and great success. Each year-long program is kicked off with a one-day conference, and is designed to develop strategies to eliminate racial barriers in the lakeshore region. It is sponsored by the Diversity Alliance and hosted by Hope College.

Participants come to learn how racial segregation affect all of us, economically and socially; understand how racial inclusion benefits everyone; take home tools to make a positive difference in our community; and join others to develop concrete plans for shaping a prosperous, inclusive future.

Fair Housing Initiative
Now merged with the Fair Housing Center of West Michigan, this project originally began as a interested community members, brought together by the Lakeshore Region Summit on Racism, started to investigate the need for fair housing services in Ottawa County. learn more...

The Diversity Alliance, many times in partnership with other racial justice organizations, help community members build their cultural competency, creating a more comfortable environment for all residents.
